IDRS maintains grants in face of death threats

You may read below a statement by the International Double Reed Society’s president Jacqueline Wilson, claiming that its directors and personnel have received death threats over a policy to restrict certain IDRS grants to ‘under-represented’ social groups.

This is highly regrettable. Verbal aggression is unacceptable in any form of musical conversation. Threats to other persons must be stopped and, where appropriate, prosecuted. Slippedisc.com wholeheartedly condemns any such threats and carefully monitors its own comments section to eliminate unacceptable material.

There is, however, room for further discussion of a policy that has clearly divided IDRS members. It is important to listen to minority opinion and to maintain reasoned judgement and polite discourse.

The International Double Reed Society will be holding a five-day international conference next week at Butler University, Indiana. We trust it will be peaceful.
