The judges of six conductor finalists at the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra International Conducting Competition could not agree on which was the best, so they chose two. Yet another ludicrous conclusion.
There are situations in life when only one will do. At the World Cup, Wimbledon, the US Presidential election, the next Pope and the choice of tea or coffee for breakfast, two is not an answer. When it is, you know that the jury went weak at the knees and made the wrong decision.
The joint winners, for what it’s worth, are called Luis Castillo-Briceńo and Miguel Sepúlveda.
The jury included Deborah Borda, Han-na Chang and Vasily Petrenko.
They failed.
