In this documentary, produced by the Fine Art Museums of San Francisco to support their exhibition Wayne Thiebaud: Art Comes From Art, we discover the lesser-known influences, references, and reinterpretations that shaped his distinctive style.

Through interviews with the artist’s son Matt Bult, former student Grace Munakata, and curator Timothy Burgard, the film explores Wayne Thiebaud’s artistic philosophy through three key “lessons”: his bold reinterpretations, his deep engagement with art history, and his lasting impact as a teacher.
