Deutsche Grammophon signs billion-strong Chinese composer

The yellow label has recruited its first Chinese composer, it was announced today.

The new DG artist is Yu-Peng Chen, 41, a gaming composer known as ‘Archon’ (master) with 1.5 billion audio streams to his credit.

From the press release:

His key influences include Joe Hisaishi, John Williams, and Rachmaninoff.

“I first heard Yu-Peng Chen’s music at a gaming event,” says Kleopatra Sofroniou, DG General Manager Classics. “I thought its beautiful melodies, imaginative instrumentation and skilful blending of western and world music traditions were simply magical.”
