The Wagner Festival was supposed to celebrate 150 years since its 1876 foundation with a blaze of glory. Instead, tightened budgets and lower attendance this year have prompted a rethink.

The 2026 season, announced yesterday, will be topped by Wagner’s early work Rienzi, making its first Bayreuth appearance.

Christian Thielemann will conduct a Ring cycle involving 3-D glasses and AI effects.

And 20 pecent discounts will be available for multiple bookings.

Ring tickets start at starting at €1,176. Works out at US$350 an opera.
