Message from Staatsoper Unter den Linden:

Margot Friedländer (1921-2025)
With Margot Friedländer, an extraordinary personality has died. In an impressive way, she testified to the horrors of the Holocaust and the crimes of the National Socialist regime. She was a committed protestor against forgetting, who moved numerous people with her repeatedly told life story – her plea for humanity as a universal role model is exemplary. The honorary citizen of Berlin Margot Friedländer, who lived again in her hometown since 2010, has as a witness to the memory of kept alive the persecution and extermination of the Jewish people and stood up against antisemitism and for tolerance. She showed great interest in the work of the State Opera Unter den Linden and took an immediate part: She regularly attended opera and concert performances here, so in the current season, and talked with the staff and guests. We will miss her and remember her as a special woman with a special life accomplishment.
