Berlin Phil puts out call for amateur players

The return of the Berliner Philharmoniker – the festival’s founding orchestra in 1967 – marks a very special festival season in Salzburg in 2026 and, with the Be Phil Orchestra, brings a unique opportunity for amateur

…Under the motto »Be Yourself – Be Music – Be Phil«, the Berliner Philharmoniker are looking for around 100 amateur musicians from Austria, Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Hungary, Liechtenstein, Germany, Switzerland and Slovakia. Rehearsals with members of the Berliner Philharmoniker will take place in Salzburg from March 29, with the final concert on April 2, 2026 at the Großes Festspielhaus under the direction of Tugan Sokhiev. The program includes Antonín Dvořák’s 8th Symphony and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Sinfonia concertante for four wind instruments and orchestra with members of the Berliner Philharmoniker in the solo parts.

The application is made via videos that can be uploaded to the Berliner Philharmoniker website. The videos can be submitted here until September 15, 2025, 6 pm. A jury of the Berliner Philharmoniker will select the members of the Be Phil Orchestra from the applications. They will be notified from November 1, 2025.
