Cancer claims BBC Proms composer

Cancer claims BBC Proms composer

The death has been announced of the composer and pianist Sarah Gibson, a member of the piano duet Hocket and a core artist of LA-based Piano Spheres, which commissions and promotes new works for piano.

The composer Jennifer Higdon writes: ‘What a heartbreaking loss of such a gifted, kind, and generous soul. I met Sarah when she was a young budding composer/pianist, still in high school. It was always a joy to cross paths with her at the Atlanta Symphony, at the 8th Blackbird Creative Lab (where she taught me how to create a piano mute), and at various places throughout the years of travel and performing. I am forever grateful to have known her. Let’s all honor Sarah by our acts of kindness.’

Sarah’s latest work beyond the beyond, a BBC commissioin, will be premiered at the BBC Proms on August 8.
