Christoph Eschenbach at 85

Christoph Eschenbach at 85

The German conductor will celebrate his birthday tonight and tomorrow with the Bamberg Symphony with performances of Bruckner’s first symphony and Camille Saint-Saëns’ Organ Symphony.

The much-travelled maestro is presently artistic director of the National Forum of Music in Wrocław, Poland, the town where he was born in February 1940. His mother died in childbirth. His father was killed by the Russians. The child survived, somehow.

Happy birthday, Herr Eschenbach.
