Death of an LSO icon, 90

The London Symphony has informed us that Kurt Hans Goedicke passed away yesterday morning as a result of injuries sustained in a fall. He was LSO Principal Timpani from 1964 to 2000.

Goedicke was a legend in the London orechestras. Born in Berlin on 17 February 1935, he dominated the stage from the rear, exerting a magnetic effect on audience eyes. He had a parallel sovereignty over the London drums scene with few newcomers getting an orchestral audition until they had passed his muster.

Afte 36 years in the LSO he was appointed head of the Timpani and Percussion Department at Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He had his own online appreciation society.
