English pianist, 83

English pianist, 83

The death has been made known of the versatile and personable pianist Marlene Fleet, who died yesterday at the age of 83.  The latter part of her career was marred by rheumatoid arthritis.

Marlene gave a world  premiere of preludes by Sigismond Thalberg and championed music by the Russian Nikolai Medtner. Her party piece was Rachmaninov’s third concerto, which she dashed off the great flair.

She  lived in the Midlands and toured Europe and South Africa.
