Exclusive: Musicians change behind boxes in Brussels concert hall

Exclusive: Musicians change behind boxes in Brussels concert hall

We have been asked to share pictures of the shocking changing space allocated to members of the Berlin Philharmonic and the Concertgebouw orchestras before their recent concert at the Bozar Hall in Brussels.

Our photographer writes: ‘I was at the Amsterdam Mahler symphony cycle and now am in Brussels for a repeat performance ofthe ninth symphony with the BPO. Coming to the concert at the Henry le Boeuf hall of the Bozar arts complex, many/most of the gentlemen of the Berlin PO were changing into their concert attire behind rows of the orchestra’s Lufthansa flight packing cases, as can be seen. I talked to an audience member who remarked the same happened when the Concertgebouw recently played Mahler 1 in the same hall.’

All respect to the musicians for putting up with such meagre accommodation. Something needs to be done about it.

This is Brussels, capital of the European Union and one of the wealthiest cities on earth.
