Copyright lawyer Corey Field, who is also a composer and has just registered a string quartet, has spotted that the latest US certificates have no signatory name after President Trump fired the former registrar Shira Perlmutter by executive order.
This constitutes a legal problem.
Is an unsigned copyright certificate valid?
Section 410(a) of the Copyright Act specifies: ‘When, after examination, the Register of Copyrights determines that… the material deposited constitutes copyrightable subject matter… the Register shall register the claim and issue to the applicant a certificate of registration under the seal of the Copyright Office.’
More here.
And here’s one of Corey’s works (copyrighted, of course).
