Juilliard will cancel tuition fees (if donors cough up)

The Juilliard School of Music has launched a half-billion fundraising drive to enable it to scrap tuition fees for all students. It has already received $180 million in pledges.

School president Damian Woetzel told the NY Times: Money can’t be the determining factor of having the opportunity to come to Juilliard, to be in New York City at Lincoln Center, and to fulfill that dream that empowers art itself.’

Juilliard i in a competitive market with the Curtis Institute of Philadelphia, which has never charged tuition in its 97 years.
