LA grabs Liverpool maestro

LA grabs Liverpool maestro

The Venezuelan conductor Domingo Hindoyan, chief of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra for the past four years, has been named music director of LA Opera from July 2026.

Hindoyan, 45, is married to the star soprano Sonya Yoncheva. He is a former assistant to Daniel Barenboim at the Staatsoper Berlin.

He clarifies: ‘Alongside my role as Chief Conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, I am deeply honoured to also take on the role of Music Director for the Los Angeles Opera. Much like Liverpool, LA is a city that embraces creativity and innovation, and I am excited to contribute to its vibrant cultural life, further explore my love of opera, and deepen my passion for music on an international stage. Liverpool remains my creative home in Europe and the space where I can develop my orchestral journey and continue the strong artistic partnership I have with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir. I eagerly anticipate this opportunity to continue to create music that can be shared with audiences in the US, the UK and around the world, opening exciting possibilities for collaboration and innovation.’
