LA Opera dumps another world premiere

LA Opera dumps another world premiere

The company has said it cannot afford to stage Missy Mazzoli’s ‘Lincoln in the Bardo,’ based on George Saunders’ 2017 novel. The opera was dropped from next season’s schedule, announced last night, and will have its premiere in October 2026 at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

LA Opera had previously dumped Mason Bates’ ‘The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay’. It will now open
the Met’s 2025-26 season on September 21.

LA Opera is no longer a player in opera commissions.

Unless this is just a clever move to avert a takeover by President Trump.
