Leading English mezzo, RIP

The lovely mezzo-soprano Margaret Cable died on Tuesday of complications following surgery. She was 82.

Married to the LSO tuba virtuoso John Fletcher (who died in 1987), Cable sang at festivals across Europe and the US and featured on many recordings. Throughout her career she taught at the Royal College of Music, serving for five years as head of vocal studies.
