Met concertmaster takes job in Taiwan

The joint concertmaster of New York’s Metropolitan Opera, David Chan, has been named artistic director of the Taipei Music Academy & Festival until 2028.

Chan’s parents are from Taiwan. He says: ‘Contributing to Taiwan’s music education and international cultural exchange is something to which I have always aspired.’

The festival has also announced Fabio Luisi as conductor of its orchestra. He says: ‘I am delighted that David has been appointed Artistic Director of TMAF. David is a fantastic musician and a great person, and I fully support and welcome this decision.’

Chan is in his 24th season as Met concertmaster.
