NY clarinetist sends message to Trump from bombed-out Kyiv

Under Russian bombardment, Julian Milkis – on his fourth nUkraine tour since the Russian invasion, sent the letter below to a man in the White House. Julian is scheduled to perform in Kharkiv, Lutsk, Odesa, and Lviv.

An open letter to President Donald Trump:
Mr. President,
I thought about writing this letter to you while Kyiv was being bombed by Putin and his army of killers, looters and rapists.
This is difficult for me: I voted for you with both hands, I had such high hopes for your presidency – all in vain…
You wanted to go down in history as the greatest peacemaker. You will go down in history as a new Pontius Pilate. You washed your hands of an entire nation of Ukraine, a heroic, beautiful nation. They want to live in peace, and now you say – you are on your own. Not only that – now you are openly on Putin’s side…
What Shame!
You know? One of the most important words is empathy. Even more important is the deed. You are lacking both.
I’m in Ukraine giving master classes, performing, and recording across my homeland. This country is bleeding, but you don’t know or understand these people – they will never give up, even when facing death.
God help this beautiful, brave country!
