Ralph Fiennes to direct his first opera

The British actor has been commissioned by the Opéra de Paris to direct Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, his operatic debut. Semyon Bychkov will conduct. Boris Pinkhasovich sings the title role. Fiennes played the role himself in a 1999 film.

Other highlights of Paris 2025-26 are a complete Ring, the first in a decade, directed by Calixto Bieito.

Netrebko will appear in Ballo in Maschera, Renee Fleming in Nixon in China.

No sign of a new music director to occupy Dudamel’s vacant seat.
