Scots sack prof, 58, over contact with student, 18

Royal Conservatoire Scotland has fired its head of jazz, Professor Tommy Smith, after an investigation into allegations of a relationship with a first-year student, according to the Mail on Sunday.

Smith is a formidable figure in Scottish jazz. Artistic Director of the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra and head of the Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra, the saxophonist was awarded an OBE by the late Queen Elizabeth for service to the art form.

There has been no comment or confirmation from either side.
