Suzuki heads Bach Leipzig jury

Once a long-time member of the Orchestra of the 18th Century and La Petite Bande as well as first professor of baroque cello at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels (1994–2000) – Hidemi Suzuki is one of the leading musicians in his field. He is chairman of the jury for Violoncello / Baroque Violoncello at the 24th International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition.
As a founding member and solo cellist of the Bach Collegium Japan, he has performed and recorded all of J. S. Bach’s church cantatas and sacred works. Returning to Japan in 2001, he founded the Orchestra Libera Classica and teaches at the Tokyo University of the Arts and the Tokyo University of Music. In 2011 he was awarded the 37th Suntory Music Award and the Hideo Saito Memorial Fund Award.
