Tenor flies from La Scala to attend birth of his child

The home of Italian opera had a last-minute cast change in Forza del Destino last night.

The US tenor Brian Jagde, himself a late substitute for Jonas Kaufmann, left Milan before last night’s performance to be present at the birth of his first child.

He’s expected back for his last performance on Thursday.
