Two Russian musicians are jailed for anti-Putin activities

The saxophonist Andrei Shabanov, who is registered disabled, has been sentenced to six years in prison for posting anti-war messages nd taking part in demontstrations.

Shabanov (pictured) has psoriatic arthritis, an autoimmune disease that will cause further bodily damage under prison conditions.

Also this week, the Krasnodar piano teacher Aleksey Lelikov, 64, was sentenced to six and a half years for organising prayer meetings of Jehovah’s Witnesses. The judge described the prayer group as ‘an extremist organization’.
