Rome books Netrebko

The Russian state agency Tass reports that Anna Netrebko will star in a new Tosca production in Rome on January 14.

The date and place are freighted with significance.

Tosca received its premiere on January 14, 1900 on the stage of the Costanzi Theatre in Rome. Netrebko appears to be established in some Italian minds as the regnant exponent of the role.

Opera houses are no longer obliged to book Netrebko with her divorcing husband Yusif Eyvazov.
