The death has been communicated of Paul Plishka, who made his Met debut in La Gioconda in 1967 and retired after La Boheme in January 2017.
Paul, who was 83, was the grandson of Ukrainian immigrants. After early success at the Met, he became a regular at La Scala and a stalwart on commercial recoprdings. He sang more than 1,700 performances at the Met. He announced his retirement in 2o12, but they kept asking him back and the voice held up well to the last.
