Met mourns orchestra stalwart

The death has been reported of Stephen Norrell, bass trombonist of the Metropolitan Opera from 1981 to 2018.

He was a faculty member of Manhattan School of Music for 47 years and teacher to many private pupils.

Steve is survived by his wife, the harpist Karen Stern, and their daughters, Jesse and Kim.
