Orpheus mourns artistic director

The Orpheus Chamber Orchestra is mourning its former artistic director and viola player, Christof Huebner, who died last week in Baltimore, aged 61.

An Austrian, born in Graz, Christoph won an orchestral audition at 19 in the Vienna State Opera, which enabled him to play also in the Vienna Philharmonic. He gained a scholarship to study with Michael Tree in the US and never looked back.

He founded and led the Walden Chamber Players in Boston and spent 27 years with Orpheus.

Christof died of esophageal cancer, diagnosed in early 2022.
