Paris mourns organ legend, 93

The death has been communicated of the venerable Pierre Cogen, ‘titulaire’ of the grand organ of Sainte-Clotilde from 1976 to 1993 and one of the great French masters. Cogen was 93.

Introduced in 1950 to Jean Langlais, composer and organist of Sainte-Clotilde, Cogen became his lifelong disciple and repository of the tradition.

In addition to his tole at Sainte-Clotilde, he directed a number of small ensembles, gave solo recitals and taught at the School Alsacienne de Paris and the Conservatoire Maurice Ravel de Levallois.
