Australian composer is murdered. Son is charged

The body of Edward Grantham was found inside inside his house in Sydney’s Croydon district after a huge fire.

Ted, who was 80, was a well-known organist and composer of the opera “Bitter Innocence”.

He was an Elder at the Scots Church and Carilloneur at the University of Sydney. He and his wife Anne had six children and 18 grandchildren.

Their son Christopher Grantham was arrested by police within hours of the fire and charged with murder.

Ted had built a separate house to accommodate a rebuilt Hill organ imported from England. That was untouched by the fire.

Mezzo-soprano Angela Cockburn, who sang in his opera, tells us: ‘Family, friends and the wider church music community are devastated.’
