Rattle, undergoing surgery, cancels BBC Proms

Rattle, undergoing surgery, cancels BBC Proms

The Proms have had a lucky year, with only one major cancellation.

Here’s a bigger one, just in:

Sir Simon Rattle must undergo routine surgery in the next few days so, regretfully, he has had to withdraw from conducting the LSO Prom on Saturday 30 August and the Chineke! Prom on Friday 5 September.

We are grateful (as is Sir Simon) to Ryan Bancroft for stepping in to conduct the LSO and to Jonathon Heyward for stepping in to conduct Chineke!, both at short notice.

The programme for the LSO Prom remains unchanged.

James Lee III’s Visions of Cahokia (European Premiere) replaces George Walker’s Pageant and Proclamation in the Chineke! Prom.
