Two Florida orchestras have been shut down

Two Florida orchestras have now ceased operations. The Punta Gorda Symphony, which shuttered last year, has been joined by the Southwest Florida Symphony, based in Fort Myers.

Both orchestras suffered setbacks during Covid but the killer blow was Governor Ron DeSantis vetoing $32 million in arts funding.

Many local musicians who played in both orchestras have been left without a livelihood.
