Breaking: Norway has new chief conductor

The Norwegian Radio Orchestra today chose Holly Choe as principal conductor. She fills the gap left by the Czech Petr Popelka, who resigned in 2023.

Holly Hyun Choe was born in South Korea and raised in Los Angeles. She has been a Gustavo Dudamel Fellow at the LA Phil and will conduct her hometown orchestra for the first time in May. Holly now lives in Germany and is agented by Karsten Witt.

The orchestra says: ‘Already from the first rehearsal we noticed that the chemistry with Holly Choe was right. Her natural musicality and energy combined with versatility is exactly what we are looking for in a chief conductor.’
